European Doctoral Seminar

European Doctoral Seminar in Culture, Criticism & Creativity

European Doctoral Seminar in Culture, Criticism & Creativity is an interdisciplinary seminar on art practices and cultural forms organised by Goldsmiths College, London, University of Copenhagen and Freie Universität Berlin.

The seminar gathers doctoral students across Europe for an ongoing discussion of topics, theories, and methods in contemporary art studies. During its three annual meetings, the seminar addresses central issues in contemporary cultural studies with special attention to the critical dialogue with present art practices and emerging forms of cultural and social agency.

The hosting institutions – Internationales Graduiertenkolleg Interart Studies, FU Berlin, The Graduate School at Goldsmiths College and Copenhagen Doctoral School in Cultural Studies – are all devoted to innovative academic assessments of cultural practices that defy formal, generic and institutional boundaries.

Each year three seminar sessions are organised, alternating between London, Copenhagen and Berlin. There will be separate calls for submissions for the individual sessions. Each session will accommodate a maximum of 25 participants. The participants will have an opportunity to present a paper of 20 minutes on a subject relevant for the overall theme of the individual session.
